To plan your wedding or elopement in winter on a mountain top in Switzerland you really need to love the snow and the cold! You will hopefully get the most beautiful views and scenery, perhaps like in this case you come above the clouds! Hopefully the weather presents mild and sunny. But you can also get -20C or snow. So you need to be prepared for everything.

Si vous prévoyez un engagement (surprise?), cela pourrait être un peu plus flexible, surtout si vous êtes là pour quelques jours. 5 tips for how to make your winter elopement wedding successfull

1. Get a wedding dress for a winter wedding

The most important is to stay warm. And it is all about how you dress. Choose a long wedding dress preferably with long sleeves. Wear thick white or skin coloured fleece leggings (or wool) underneath. If possible also a wool thin undergarment for your upper body.

You can buy body heaters (just like the hand and foot warmers) that you can put underneath the dress that will keep you warm. Buy or rent a fake fur shoulder warmer or coat to keep you warm. If it’s really cold find a nice festive beanie and gloves that suits a wedding. Forget about any high heels, white moon boots or winter mountain boots will keep your feet warm, perhaps in combination with wool socks.

The same is valid for the groom. A good fleece or wool undergarment underneath the suit will keep you warmer.

2. Bring hot drinks in a thermos

Of course you will bring the champagne, but you will for sure appreciate your hot wine or tea in a thermos to warm up inside

3. Have an indoor solution not too far

If you get really cold it’s good to have somewhere to go inside to warm up a little. Perhaps it could be the chalet where you stay, a hotel or a mountain restaurant.

4. Move to get warm

Or you go sledging? Or you plan a snow-shoe elopement?
Whatever you choose it’s good to move to get the temperature up!

(and no, you don’t get a cold from being cold. You ALWAYS get a cold from a virus. So stay outdoors to avoid them. 🙂 )

5 conseils pour réussir votre mariage hivernal.

1. Obtenez une robe de mariée pour un mariage d'hiver

Le plus important est de ne pas avoir froid. Et tout dépend de la façon dont vous vous habillez. Choisissez une robe de mariée longue de préférence à manches longues. Portez des leggings en polaire (ou en laine) épaisse blanche ou couleur peau en dessous. Si possible aussi un sous-vêtement fin en laine pour le haut du corps.

Vous pouvez acheter des chauffe-corps (tout comme les chauffe-mains et les chauffe-pieds) que vous pouvez mettre sous la robe qui vous garderont au chaud. Achetez ou louez un chauffe-épaule ou un manteau en fausse fourrure pour vous garder au chaud. S’il fait vraiment froid, trouvez un joli bonnet de fête et des gants qui conviennent à un mariage. Oubliez les talons hauts, les bottes de lune blanches ou les bottes de montagne d’hiver garderont vos pieds au chaud, peut-être en combinaison avec des chaussettes en laine.

Il en est de même pour le marié. Un bon sous-vêtement en polaire ou en laine sous la combinaison vous gardera au chaud.

2. Apportez des boissons chaudes dans un thermos

Bien sûr vous apporterez le champagne, mais vous apprécierez à coup sûr votre vin chaud ou votre thé dans un thermos pour vous réchauffer à l’intérieur du corps.

3. Ayez une solution d'intérieur pas trop loin

Si vous avez vraiment froid, c’est bien d’avoir un endroit où aller à l’intérieur pour vous réchauffer un peu. Ce pourrait être le chalet où vous logez, un hôtel ou un restaurant d’altitude.

4. Bouger pour se réchauffer

Ou vous faites de la luge? Ou vous prévoyez une sortie en raquettes ?

Quoi que vous choisissiez, il est bon de bouger pour faire monter la température !

5. Amusez-vous ! C'est le jour de votre mariage !

Les gens qui s’amusent seront toujours moins froids. 🙂

(et non, on n’attrape pas la rhume en ayant froid. Vous attrapez TOUJOURS le rhume à cause d’un virus. Restez donc dehors pour les éviter.)

How to find the right location for your winter elopement wedding or engagement

I know a lot of different nice spots that are suitable for both engagements, weddings or elopements. It all comes down to your needs. Do reflect over the following:

1. Will you have any guests or will you be alone?

If you choose to have guests you should decide how many they will be. Who they are – do they need any handicap facilities, are they as adventurous as you are? Do they appreciate your idea? Do they ski/hike etc. How many will fit into the location that you have in mind? Will they all get there without any problems?

2. What kind of landscape do you wish to be the backdrop of your wedding photos? What view do you enjoy the most?

Do you prefer high mountains or just snow and forrest? Do you want the magic of the sunrise or sunset (you have to go high to get it!)? What speaks to you the most and what will make your heart sing?

3. How adventurous do you wish your wedding/engagement to be?

Are both of you as adventurous? If one is less, that’s where you should put the line. It should be fun and enjoyable for both of you. Are you ready to sweat? Are you ready to get dirty on your wedding day? Are you ready to climb a mountain?

Or do you prefer just to get all dressed up in a mountain chalet or hotel, find the spot with a helicopter or just near the place you stay?

Nothing is right or wrong. You should think about what YOU really want for the most memorable day of your life!

4. How big is your wedding budget?

You might not want to save on your wedding day. However you decide to celebrate, it’s your wedding day and it deserves to be unique, just as you! And it should be the most memorable day of your life.

But let’s get realistic. Perhaps you just simply don’t have that much money. But there are locations that can fit any budget. If you are on a lower budget, a helicopter elopement and stay over night might just be out of your budget. But there are other locations that are reachable with gondolas, trains, skis or snowshoes!

Je connais beaucoup d’endroits sympas qui conviennent à la fois aux fiançailles, aux mariages laïques. Tout dépend de vos besoins. Réfléchissez aux points suivants:

1. Aurez-vous des invités ou serez-vous seul ?

Si vous choisissez d’avoir des invités, vous devez décider combien ils seront. Qui sont-ils – ont-ils besoin d’installations pour handicapés, sont-ils aussi aventureux que vous ? Est-ce qu’ils apprécient votre idée ? Font-ils du ski/de la randonnée, etc. Combien conviendront-ils à l’emplacement que vous avez en tête ? Y arriveront-ils tous sans problème ?

2. Quel type de paysage souhaitez-vous comme toile de fond de vos photos de mariage ? Quelle vue aimez-vous le plus ?

Préférez-vous les hautes montagnes ou simplement la neige et la forêt ? Envie de la magie du lever ou du coucher du soleil (il faut monter plus en altitude pour le avoir!)? Qu’est-ce qui vous parle le plus et qu’est-ce qui fera chanter votre cœur ?

3. À quel point souhaitez-vous que votre mariage/fiançailles soit aventureux ?

Êtes-vous tous les deux aussi aventureux? Si l’un est moins, c’est là que vous devriez mettre la ligne. Cela devrait être amusant et agréable pour vous deux. Êtes-vous prêt à transpirer? Êtes-vous prêt à vous salir le jour de votre mariage? Êtes-vous prêt à gravir une montagne?

Ou préférez-vous simplement vous habiller dans un chalet de montagne ou un hôtel, trouver le spot en hélicoptère ou tout simplement à proximité de votre lieu de séjour ?

Rien n’est bien ou mal. Vous devriez penser à ce que VOUS voulez vraiment pour le jour le plus mémorable de votre vie !

4. Quel est le budget de votre mariage ?

Vous ne voudrez peut-être pas économiser le jour de votre mariage. Quelle que soit la façon dont vous décidez de célébrer, c’est le jour de votre mariage et il mérite d’être unique, tout comme vous ! Et ce devrait être le jour le plus mémorable de votre vie.

Mais soyons réalistes. Peut-être que vous n’avez tout simplement pas autant d’argent. Mais il y a des endroits qui peuvent s’adapter à tous les budgets. Si vous avez un budget inférieur, un elopement en hélicoptère et un séjour d’une nuit pourraient être hors de votre budget. Mais il existe d’autres endroits accessibles en télécabine, en train, à ski ou en raquettes !
