The planning of an adventurous elopement wedding in Zermatt
When I first spoke with Emma and Sean about their Zermatt elopement wedding I felt that this is a couple that appreciates a real adventure. And they sure went ALL IN!
From first look, champagne and strawberries at their hotel room, a ride with a horse carriage to the gondola, kissing in the old town of Zermatt, taking the gondola to go dogsledding, having the wedding ceremony in front of Matterhorn, skiing down the other side of the mountain to take the helicopter up to a mountaintop with Matterhorn as the backdrop to pop the champagne and do the wedding dance at sunset.
That’s what I call a real adventurous wedding elopement. And it’s not only that. It’s a helicopter elopement, a skiing elopement, a snowboard elopement, a husky elopement. Why choose? Preparations for the elopement day at the hotel in Zermatt:
Emma got ready in their room in Zermatt together with her sister Olivia. And what a blast they had. It must be a dream to have a sister to share this very special moment with. Sean prepared himself in another room. Olivias husband was supposed to be there but unluckily got stuck in Munich due to the loss of his passport. The hotel had prepared some amazing snacks and champagne. When you go an adventure like this you do need to bunker up with some food and drinks before.

Their room had a beautiful Matterhorn view and Zermatt town so we decided it was a good spot for the first look.

Zermatt is a car-free town which is amazing as it’s so quiet and the air feels fresh. For transportation for a wedding a horse carriage could is the best choice. Especially when you, as Emma, loves animals.

It’s not often that you go into the gondola or ski lift with a lace wedding dress! But I assure you, it’s great fun!

Dogsled elopement? – There is no limit to what you can do on your wedding day. Do whatever makes your heart sing. Do whatever will make your day the best day of your life. Do whatever will create the best memories ever. Do whatever will create the strongest bond to your partner. Do something new for the first time? Or something that you simply just love doing together.
If you want to do a real dogsled elopement then you should pick northern Sweden. But if you want it as a part of your day dogsledding in Zermatt works perfectly fine. Just remember that you can not go both of you in the sled at the same time. But the photos are for sure epic!
Wedding ceremony, ring exchange and reading the vows
After the dogsled, close to the foot of Matterhorn Emma’s sister Olivia held the ceremony and they exchanged rings and read the vows. Matterhorn makes an amazing frame to the wedding ceremony. Raw and wild compared to the lace and love.
The sun showed its last rays before disappearing behind the mountains – A good moment to continue up on the mountain tops!
Skiing and snowboarding to reach the helicopter base
To have the golden hour in the mountains, you need to be on the top of one. The easiest way to ge t there and back before it’s completely dark is by helicopter. In Zermatt it’s especially special as while flying up, you come very close to the majestic mountain and it’s simply a very special moment in so many ways. Then popping the champagne in the sunset in front of this mountain is just epic. This day we were extremely lucky as there was no wind and fairly mild for the season. But you should be prepared for all weathers.
