I FEEL YOU...
It’s the night before your wedding, the last drop of anxiety is taking over, the obligations that come with all the preparations, on top of that you’re not sure if your whole family there will cause too much drama, distracted with these insignificant burdens. Stressed last minute about who to invite or not, just for the sake of not disappointing others, was it a good idea to invite my X ? Should I have invited my boss?
As if this wasn’t enough all the investment that has gone into the wedding, leaves you with the pressure of everything having to look perfect, not to forget the post-wedding financial blues. The wedding day comes and everything is planned out by second, leaving no space to truly enjoy each moment. You start by taking the photos in a superficial setting with bright lights shining directly at you, being forced to smile, turn right and left, whilst feeling awkward and uncomfortable.
The party starts and you find yourself simply worrying about entertaining your guests. Feeling guilty realizing you haven’t managed to spend any intentional moment with the one person who matters in all of this. The moment comes to say your vows and you’re so overwhelmed that you don’t even remember. All of this leaving you longing for the honeymoon to have the true love experience…
And the worst part is when your kids will ask you few years later about your wedding day you won’t be able to recall much of it….
Then it hits you, you realize none of these wedding traditions are truly yours. They have been strategically formulated by the wedding industry to convince you that you need to spend to be happy, but let me tell you, true happiness is free from all the bells and whistles and A LOT simpler than this.
The sad truth is many people feel relieved once all of this is over. Which doesn’t surprise me; I went through a biggish wedding myself, and although my day was awesome in many ways, I would have done several things differently.
You have the permission to be selfish on your wedding day… let me introduce you to another type of wedding which is simply about you as a couple. Nobody else, nothing else. No random work colleagues, No controlling mothers. No cheesy table decorations. Just about you.
